Oloye Lekan Alabi
Maye Olubadan of Ibadanland

Oloye ‘Lekan Alabi, is a Journalist, an Author, a PR Consultant, a Syndicated Columnist and a Motivational Speaker. He is the Agba Akin Olubadan of Ibadanland and Cultural Ambassador of the National Museum,Ile-Ife. He was born on October 27, 1950 in Ibadan, Oyo state.

Oloye ‘Lekan Alabi was the Guest Speaker at the 9th Edition of the DAWN Yoruba Historical Conversations which held on Friday, 27th April, 2018

He attended 7th-Day Adventist Primary School, Oke-Foko, Ibadan (1958 to 1963) and was class captain from Pry 2 to Pry 4, School mailboy in Pry 5 and School Prefect in Pry 6...

He attended African Church Grammar School, Apata Ganga, Ibadan (1964 to 1969). He was a class teacher at St John’s Anglican Primary School, Akinajo near Arulogun, Ibadan from 1971 to 1972, from where he took employment as the first Editorial Assistant at Onibonoje Press Limited, Ibadan. In 1973, he was employed by the Sketch Publishing Company Limited, Ibadan as a Reporter/Writer/Reader Grade 2. He became the company’s youngest and first dual columnist, also in Nigeria. He went to the famous College of Journalism, ‘Fleet Street’, London in 1976 and did his graduation in 1978. He came back to Sketch and resigned from it to join Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Ibadan. He was there from 1978 to 1982. In 1982, when the present Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State Television was established – it was then known as Television Service of Oyo State – He was one of the pioneer editorial staff, when the station started transmission on October 30, 1982. He was the first reporter to appear on the Channel and also the first chairman of the station’s chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ). In 1983, he was seconded as a Press Secretary to the late Chief ‘Bola Ige, then Governor of old Oyo State(today’s Oyo and Osun States). Oloye Alabi, was recalled from his sack in 1984 by the new Military Governor of Oyo State, then Lt-Col Oladayo Popoola. It will be recalled that Dr Omololu Olunloyo of the NPN, who FEDECO declared the winner of the 1983 governorship election in Oyo State, sacked many civil and public servants accused of being ‘Bola Ige/UPN loyalists. He was Press Secretary from 1983 to 1989. So, he served four governors, three military officers and one civilian, for a period of six years. In recognition of his professionalism and loyalty, the governments of the owner-states of Odu’a Investment Company Limited, in 1989, appointed Oloye Alabi the first Public Affairs Manager of the conglomerate. After 17 years of dedicated service to the Yoruba economic patrimony, he voluntarily retired from the Odu’a Group in 2006, as the first General Manager, Corporate Affairs. Oloye Alabi is the Chairman of the Adegoke Adelabu (Penkelemesi) Foundation and the Yusufu Olatunji (Baba lEgba) Foundation. He is a Trustee of the Adekunle Fajuyi Foundation, D. O. Fagunwa Foundation, Duro Ladipo Foundation, among others. In 2013, he was conferred with an honorary Doctor of Letters degree by Achievers University, Owo, Ondo State. Oloye Alabi is married and blessed with adorable children and grandchildren.

My name is Princess (Mrs) Dorcas Olayemi Amusan-Fagborun, MBE. I am Originally a qualified teacher. I have BA Hons in Peace Studies; MA Women’s Studies and NCE in Business Studies.  I worked in primary and secondary schools in Nigeria before I came to the UK to join my husband who was awarded the Commonwealth Scholarship in 1987. 

Having finished my first degree in Peace Studies from the University of Bradford, I went to Platter College, Oxford to learn ‘practical mediation’- where theories were put into practice. ..

 I am currently the CEO of Peacemaker International, a registered charity in England and Wales. The charity provides community-based family support for vulnerable people.  The organisation supports women and children.  We provide career support for job seekers and advocacy support for families, the elderly and people with disabilities. The work also includes community mediation and conflict resolution. I believe in community cohesion based on the principle of social justice which includes equal access to good quality services, working with community to improve key services such as housing, education, welfare, health and action against crime etc.      I have impacted the community of Bradford through innovation, enabling the provision of high-quality support to women, children and families. I served as a representative of the Board on the Best Value Review of a Housing Association and a Member of Best Value Review for Bradford Council and Bradford Achievement Forum. I was in the past a Trustee/Vice Chair of Manningham Housing Association and the Chair of Anah Project.  I was once the chair of Association of Black and Asian Governor as well as Parent and Community Governor in Bradford.  My work as the CEO of Peacemaker International centres around problem-solving that is to: Manage Supervise Report Identify Analyse Describe Look for Root Causes Develop Alternative Solutions Team work Implement the Solution Measure the Results etc. My untarnished track record has been recognised by the community and authority, so much that I have been given many outstanding awards by various communities and institutions, including West Yorkshire Police (2007), African Achievers Award (2009), Life Star Award for an Extraordinary Lady (2018), Distinguished Alumni Award of Obafemi Awolowo University (2018). Finally, an MBE in 2018 by Her Royal Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II at the Queen’s Birthday Honour for Services to Community Cohesion and to Women and Girls’ Rights. My communication, negotiation and problem-solving skills have helped me to function and determine strategically why an issue is happening and carry others with her to resolve it.  My vision is to promote listening skills, team work, forgiveness, reconciliation, community cohesion and peace by focusing on dismantling the legacy of  'self-centeredness'  by tackling corruption, unfairness, ethnicity, prejudice and promote reconciliation  and meet the needs of Yoruba people. I am a campaigner for Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). I am very keen about gender violence, including Domestic Violence, Forced Marriages, Honour Killing, Child Marriage, Child Trafficking etc. She uses her life experiences to educate people about harmful effects of FGM and why the practice should stop.  I advocates for peace and passionate about whatever I do that could disarm enemies, making them change their minds.  I do not keep grudge as I have high level of forgiveness, positive thinking, ability to see the big picture, focusing on goals and missions beyond a current situation. In one word, I am optimistic.  I believe that this will enable me to bring peace to a disadvantaged community before and after freedom.    I will aspire to encourage people to devote their lives to peace, justice, and reconciliation. To build leaders for liberty, fairness, truth/reality, affection, harmony/peace and impartiality/justice.

Otunba Ayodeji Osibogun

Otunba Ayodeji Osibogun was born on November 9, 1955 at Catholic Mission Hospital, Lagos. Otunba Ayodeji Osibogun’s grandfather was the proprietor and first Principal of famous Saviour High School, Vaughan lane Aroloya, Lagos and Otubu memorial school Ijebu–Ode.

He started his educational career at United Missionary Primary School and finished up at I.C.C practicing school Oke-Bola, Ibadan. He later attended Comprehensive High School, Aiyetoro in Ogun State...

He completed his higher school certificate both comprehensive High school and Olivet Baptist High school, Oyo where he distinguished himself as a top state athlete and a leader of men ending up as the labor prefect at comprehensive High School Aiyetoro. He continued his education with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre Arts from the prestigious University of Ibadan where he played leading roles in major drama presentations. Otunba Ayodeji Osibogun continued his innovative and pace setting achievement during his NYSC service year by funding the Kwara state NYSC drama troupe in 1978 which won major laurels over the years and immediately after his service year he was given appointment by NTA Ibadan. Ogun state had only then been created and in 1979 with a burning desire to serve his home state and contribute to its growth he joined the services of Ogun state civil service at the nation’s model station O.G.B.C. One remarkable achievement in his innovative career was the establishment of famous experimental Radio station O.G.B.C II that was later adopted in the Broadcast industry in the 80’s. Ever since his departure from civil service Otunba Ayodeji Osibogun has gone and proven himself in the business world by starting from humble beginning as a cleaner and painter and later establishing his own company Creazoni Nigeria Limited in 1986. First with a cleaning division in charge of the largest hospital in Africa U.C.H Ibadan, the largest brewery in Nigeria N.B.L Ibadan, Standard Breweries Alomaja, Procter & Gamble, former Afribank branches now Polaris Bank from that little acorn has sprung the Interior & Exterior decoration divisions, supplies divisions communications and a motor division. Today he is the largest supplier of broadcast and production equipment. He continues to contribute to the improvement of our environment with the major emphasis theme of converting waste to wealth an example is the Peace Park along secretariat road he established in 1991 which today has provided succor and employment to over 15 young men who then had no hope of survival. Today they own cars and have built houses of theirs. Otunba Ayodeji Osibogun is a member of so many prestigious clubs and Associations such as: • Ibadan Recreation Club, • Ibadan Golf Club, • Abuja Golf Club, • Ibadan Polo Club, • Sliver knights. He is a patron of many organizations such as: • Sport Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN OYO STATE), • Shooting Stars Football Club, • Youth Forum Chapel of Association. In 2003 in fulfilling his promise of providing a change in the leadership of Ogun State he ventured into politics and was a gubernatorial aspirant in the Alliance for Democracy. He has withdrawn from frontline politics but continues to contribute his quota to the growth and development of his base Ijebu –Ode, Ogun state and Nigeria in general holding no political office or position but constantly finding solutions to the problems that continue to confront our people and our nation. Otunba Ayodeji Osibogun is also the: • Giwa Egbe Bobagbimo • Akile Ijebu Land • Otunba Obaloja of Ijebu Land • Conveyner and Vice President of Yoruba Koya • Conveyner of Yoruba Leadership and Peace Initiative. Engineer Oludare Olugbemi, a native of Imesi-Ile, embarked on a distinguished academic journey that culminated in the attainment of a B.Sc (Hons) in Electrical Engineering from the University of Lagos in 1987. Prior to this, in 1983, he had acquired an Advance Level Certificate at The Polytechnic, Ibadan. His educational foundation was laid at Erin-Ile Secondary School in 1981, Erin Ile, Kwara State, where he obtained his school certificate...

He also had his Youth service in Old Bendel state where he worked as an engineer at Piedmont Plywoods Company Ltd, Ologbo now in Edo State. The Youth service was completed in 1988. Embarking on a professional trajectory, Engineer Oludare Olugbemi contributed his expertise to Rank Xerox Nig Ltd, where he ascended to the position of Manager before departing in 1996. Subsequently, he joined Crown and Gold Shipping Line, where he served as the General Manager until 2003, marking a pivotal point in his career as he ventured into entrepreneurship. The entrepreneurial spirit led Engineer Oludare Olugbemi to establish his own business, eventually leading to his current role as the Chairman/CEO of Gabolit Petroleum Company Ltd, a position he has held with distinction to the present day. Beyond his professional endeavors, Engineer Oludare Olugbemi is an active member of the Imesi-Ile Progressive Association (IPA). Within this community organization, he serves on the Culture and Tourism Committee, contributing his skills and knowledge to initiatives that promote the rich cultural heritage and tourism potential of Imesi-Ile.

Olaniyi Oyedele is a Yoruba-American originally from Abeokuta, Ogun State. He is a graduate of geography from the University of Benin, Benin City, Nigeria and qualified as a chartered accountant in 2002. Olaniyi is currently a certified public accountant (CPA) in the state of Texas. Prior to leaving Nigeria, Olaniyi worked in the banking section in Nigeria where he rose to become the Assistant Controller in a major bank. While in the US, Olaniyi worked at a major public accounting firm in Texas, where he rose to become Audit Manager and managed three of the top gross revenue accounts for the firm. He is currently an assistant city auditor of a major city in the US. Mr. Oyedele is a treasurer on the board of directors of a foremost community action agency responsible for the management and operations of Head Start program in the state of Texas.
